Library Policies - Current Northern Students

The library is available to Northern Seminary Students during the week when staff is onsite to let you in.

Checking Out Books

Northern students who use the physical library when on campus are to log their checked out books into the log on the table.  Please fill it out completely (name, book title, date and complete barcode) so the book can be checked out when the librarian is on site.

Returning Northern Books

When returning books on campus, you can place them in the drop box outside the building or in the drop box outside the main doors on the 3rd floor.

Students and Faculty in Illinois

All current students, staff, and faculty members have access to our digital resource subscriptions through Primo VE catalog & DTL2.  See the individual pages in the menu on the left of this page for more information on those resources.  Additionally, local students, staff, and faculty can also checkout books from our physical library collection, as well as request books through I-Share; and books, articles, and other resources through InterLibrary Loan (see the menu links to the left of the page for more information on those resources).

All I-Share materials can be picked up during regular Northern Seminary office hours.  Drop off all returning books -- both for I-Share and the Northern Seminary Library -- by using the library drop-box outside the building front door or the drop-box near the suite entrance.  We do not mail books to students.

InterLibrary Loan (ILL) materials must be returned directly to Northern Seminary Library.

Note that Northern Seminary Library is closed on all Seminary-observed holidays.

Students and Faculty Outside of Illinois

Distance students and faculty members have access to our digital resource subscriptions through Primo VE catalog & DTL2.  See the individual pages in the menu on the left of this page for more information on those resources.

Distance students and faculty cannot use I-Share.  While they also cannot use InterLibrary Loan to request physical books, they can request journal articles and copies (within guidelines for page ranges) through ILL.

For physical books, check with your local public library to use the InterLibrary Loan system in your home state.  This will enable you to access physical books from participating academic institutions and other libraries.

Check to see if a member ATLA is in your area.
